Our audition process
Auditioning can be a trying experience for even
the most seasoned of actors. We make every attempt to make the
process as quick and painless as possible. Although each director
is free to set his or her own parameters, the following information
generally applies to the audition process.
Auditions are by appointment only.
This is done to allow for better scheduling and a minimum amount
of "wait time" for auditioners.
Upon arrival, auditioners are asked to complete a form and submit
any resume, conflict calendar and/or photo materials they may
have. If you don't have a "headshot," the staff will take a photo
of you. Initial auditions are generally closed (only one person
at a time.) However, you may be asked to read with others later
in the audition process. Normally the initial audition takes 5
to 10 minutes but it is best to allow at least an hour from the
time of your appointment to complete forms and for possible delays.
Auditioners are asked to sing a prepared
song of their choice or part thereof. While all auditioners
should be able to carry a tune, it is not necessary that you be
a great singer in order to be cast.
Auditioners may be asked to read from the script (after
time for preparation)
if auditioning for a speaking part.
Those auditioning for chorus parts or specifically for
roles involving dancing are generally called back the NEXT day
for a dance audition. They should dress for movement.
Shoes that don't come off easily with no high heels (unless they
are character dance shoes) are suggested. Auditioners will be
taught a simple dance combination and will then be seen in small
groups of 4 or 5 at a time. Normally, the dance audition takes
takes about an hour and a half. If you're not a dancer, don't
worry. While some people will be cast primarily for their dancing
ability, there are usually a number of chorus roles that require
only the ability to "move to music."
